Some of my favorite pregnancy & postpartum products: Coming right up!
Welcome to your Morning Pour! ☕️
In previous posts, I’ve talked about how the hormone relaxin helps the pelvis shift and expand during pregnancy, and how those changes can sometimes lead to discomfort or pain. As a prenatal chiropractor, I’m always thinking about simple, effective ways to keep my patients comfortable both in and out of the office!
Today, I’m sharing a few of my go-to tools and products that I use in the clinic and often recommend to patients to support them throughout pregnancy (and even postpartum). All of these can be found online or at many local stores.
Let’s start with two essentials I recommend to every patient, whether they’re pregnant or not: a lacrosse ball and a massage cane.
Both are great for releasing trigger points (those tight “knots” in your muscles that can cause local or referred pain). During pregnancy, these commonly show up in the glutes, low back, and hip flexors.
The lacrosse ball is small, portable, and easy to use against a wall, seated on a chair, or on the floor
The massage cane is especially helpful later in pregnancy, when it becomes harder to reach certain areas (like the hip flexors) around your growing belly
There’s no need to overthink brands. Anything that helps you apply pressure comfortably and effectively will do the job!
Next up: the wedge pillow, a patient favorite!
In the office, I use it to support the belly or back when patients are lying down, helping relieve pressure and improve comfort. Many patients love it because it’s a compact alternative to a full body pillow, and their partners appreciate the extra bed space too!
Brands like Boppy are great for simplicity and ease of use, while options like Momcozy offer additional back support if that’s something you’re looking for.
For extra support during the day, I often recommend a pregnancy belt.
A good belt should:
Support the lower back
Gently lift the belly to reduce pressure on the pelvis
Feel comfortable without digging into sensitive skin
I tend to recommend the Maternity Belt 2.0 because it checks all of these boxes, and can even be used postpartum!
Lastly, while my blog is mostly for the currently pregnant or soon to be moms, I can’t recommend my favorite products without giving Tushbaby a huge shoutout!
Made for postpartum, it’s one of my most recommended (and gifted!) products. Carrying your baby on one hip often leads to back and hip pain from uneven weight distribution. The Tushbaby helps even out the load with a supportive ledge, making it much more comfortable to carry your baby as they grow. Recommended for babies and toddlers 8-45 lbs, it can also be used hand free for infants when you purchase a separate wrap.
If you’ve been overwhelmed by all the options out there, I hope this helped simplify things and point you toward tools that are actually useful and practical. At the end of the day, it’s all about supporting your body through the changes of pregnancy and making daily life just a little more comfortable 💛
